About WAMSS Mental HealthMental Health Logo

WAMSS Mental Health (formerly known as Students Passionate About Mental Health) is a group of medical students at the University of Western Australia (UWA) founded in 2011 and dedicated to raising awareness about the link between mental health, general health and wellbeing.

SPAMH_Q&A_2012Our aims are:

  1. To reduce
public stigma against mental illness and psychiatry.
  2. To promote preventative measures to assist with student wellbeing.
  3. To empower medical students to be effective advocates for mental health patients and professionals.

We aim to offer a variety of events to address these aims. They range from stimulating academic evenings like our expert Q&A Panels, to awareness events like RUOK? Day, to informal self-care opportunities such as our Ukeversity ukulele jam sessions.

We help to implement the initiatives of the Australian Medical Students’ Association (AMSA) Mental Health Campaign at a local level, and also work with the UWA Guild, the UWA School of Psychiatry and Clinical Neurosciences, and local organisations.

We work at the level of the medical, student, and general communities, and are always excited to hear ideas and feedback.
