Social Portfolio

WAMSS is part of a number of sporting events, from interyear events, to interfaculty sporting events to intervarsity and even staff versus students!

The sports portfolio consists of:

  • Female Sports Reps (2)
  • Male Sports Reps (2)

Interyear Events

Image Inter-year sporting events always lead to fierce competition between year groups in an effort to win the WAMSS Champion Year trophy. Last year’s sporting events began with Dragonboats at the Matilda Bay foreshore, where the first years soon learnt an age old rule: “freshers can’t win anything”. The year continued with inter-year football and netball. The competition between fourth and fifth years was extremely close, with the fifth years taking out the trophy for Champion Year by the smallest of margins.

2006 also saw the re-introduction of staff-students sport, with a soccer match won convincingly by the students. This tradition has fallen by the wayside over recent years, and we look forward to competing in planned cricket, netball and soccer matches in 2007

Intervarsity Events
ImageIntervarsity competition is always a highlight of the year and 2006’s Med v Physio football was no exception. After giving the physiotherapy students a hiding in the first half, they clawed back to snatch victory from WAMSS by one point. It was a great day, finishing with a BBQ between both universities and the usual guarantees from both sides that next year their team would reign supreme.

2006 also saw the inaugural WAMSS v MSAND Western Derby AFL game, to prove which medical school is actually the best where it counts. Unfortunately for WAMSS, we under-estimated just how many physio students do medicine at Notre Dame and we were convincingly beaten by the MSAND team. Again, it was a great day and built up what looks to become a great friendly rivalry between the two medical schools.

Interfaculty Events
Interfaculty competition is always a struggle for med students. Combining forces from as far as Rockingham, Joondalup and Bentley all at the same time can be a struggle. Nonetheless, we fought hard and 2006 saw us kick Faculty ass in the netball and hockey. An overall finish of fourth means we will be back again next year fighting harder than ever for the top spot.
