What is WAMSS?

The Western Australian Medical Students’ Society (WAMSS) is the peak representative body of all medical students at the University of Western Australia.

We represent at students at a number of levels including the University faculty, the university Guild, the Australian Medical Students’ Association, the Australian Medical Association (WA) (AMA(WA)), and the Postgraduate Medical Association of WA.

As a future medical student, or a medical student applicant, you can contact us to learn more about medicine, to participate in WAMSS' charitable and advocative activities or you can attend many of our regular social and academic events. To get in contact with us, contact our Secretary: [email protected]

For our students, WAMSS seeks to significantly enhance the wider student experience. WAMSS is responsible for some of the biggest student events on the UWA campus. Allied Health, the charity phenomenon Red Party, the Annual Gala Medical Ball as well as an extensive range of graduation events are all organised by members (volunteers!) of the WAMSS committee. There are a number of events on during the year which you may check out here.

As mentioned, WAMSS has a number of subcommittees and interest groups that you are welcome to join.

  • Interhealth - our global health advocacy group. Interhealth has many subcommittees of its own.
  • Students Passionate about Mental Health (SPAMH) - our mental health group.
  • Red Party - works to raise awareness and funds for Oxfam supporting HIV/AIDS related work in Africa.
  • Students in Medical and health Research Conference (SHMRC)  - our annual research conference that showcases the studies and research of medical and health professional students.
